Oh, Hello August!

August snuck up on me this year. I got married in April and was back from my honeymoon in May. It is hard to believe I’ve been married for four months. I often feel like I am still settling into this life.

This brings me an odd sense of joy. I can only hope that the butterflies I feel waking up next to my husband and the joy I feel eating breakfast together lasts a lifetime.

She wrote this post about Living A Slow Life that I really enjoyed.

I hope that you enjoy it too!

Reading Update

I mentioned in my last update that I had enjoyed listening to this podcast interview with Mitch Albom. I was inspired to read one of his books.

I walked past the local bookstore on a date with my husband on Saturday and popped in to see if they had one of his books. I spotted Tuesdays With Morrie after only a few minutes. So I bought it!

And, I finished it that night.

“[F]or just one second, look at your life and see how perfect it is. Stop looking for the next secret door that is going to lead you to your real life. Stop waiting. This is it: there’s nothing else. It’s here, and you’d better decide to enjoy it or you’re going to be miserable wherever you go, for the rest of your life, forever.”

Sunset in Brickell

Three things that I am grateful for are…

  • I am going to see my sister Madeline tomorrow
  • the sunset view from my living room window
  • a book and a cup of tea

Exciting Garden News!

When I venture out onto my balcony in the morning to say hi to my lemon tree, I am transported back to the Amalfi Coast where big beautiful lemon trees grew in every garden.

My lemon tree is filled with buds this season. I have counted 12 so far. Hopefully some of them grow into big beautiful lemons.

A chance to wind down at the end of the night has been a priority for me. I put my phone to sleep before dinner. I clean the dishes while Michael makes me a cup of tea. Then, I knit, or journal, or read.

Here is what I have been listening to.

Meet Layla.

My family got a new dog this week. I hope she makes you smile. She is such a sweet girl.
