As July Comes To An End…

Hello! I am writing this post from my parent’s kitchen table. I spent the week in New York to celebrate a beautiful wedding, a few birthdays, and my sister’s graduation from high school. As I visited with my grandparents, old friends, and husband’s family I was reminded of how lucky I am to have so much love and support in my life.

Inspiring People

Bobbi Gibb

Bobbi Gibb female marathon runner

In 1966 Bobbi Gibb signed up to run the Boston marathon and excitedly waited to receive her running number in the mail. The day the envelope came she was shocked. Inside there was a letter stating that women are “not physiologically able to run a marathon” and they could not “take the liability” of letting her try. So, the morning of the race she showed up in a big sweatshirt, a hat, and basketball shorts and hid in the crowd of people. That is the beginning of the story of how she was the first woman to run the Boston marathon.

As people started to notice Bobbi was a 23 year old woman the support flooded in. Runners vowed to protect her from those opposing her running and women from the nearby colleges ran to cheer her on.

As of 2017, more than 45% of marathon runners in the United States were women. Bobbi Gibb is an amazing role model for not just girls or runners, but people! A beautiful tribute to what we are all capable of.

Three things that I am grateful for are…

  • having a job that I love
  • spending time with my younger siblings this week
  • having four healthy grandparents

If you enjoy baking or want to start baking, here is a great place to start! I have tried baking bread so many times over the past year and was rarely successful. After buying this sourdough starter kit I have made so many yummy loaves. So fun and so yummy! I also love Hannah from Ballerina Farm and was so glad to support her and her awesome family!

I have had such a lovely week home with family but I am also excited to get back to my life in Miami. I am going to leave you with another quote today that is really resonating with me right now. Here it is…

“You will never be completely at home again, because part of your heart will always be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.”
